On Tuesday Feb. 6, Alpha Phi Omega arranged a tie blanket event to support the local community.

The event location was 7-8 p.m. in the Wedge Lounge. Around 10 students joined this event. The main purpose of the event was to do something for people in need.

Jillian Inman, a sophomore Education major and President of the Alpha Phi Omega club explains more about the event:

“This event is a service event of rush week.” They said. “We buy blankets and tie, and we donate to the homeless shelter, women’s shelter and other places in the community around us where peoples are in need. We did tie blankets before during previous semesters.”

Another student, sophomore Sociology major Zach Hahn said:

“Making tie blanket for nearby homeless peoples, I love this event and I am happy to connect with others and make blankets.”

There are four groups that made blankets. Every group had an average of 3-4 people. They made the blankets by cutting the sides of blankets and tying those. There are various types and colors of blankets they made.

A freshman student, Mikayla Baksa, Double major in psychology and special education said:

“I joined here last semester, we are making blankets for animal and homeless shelter” Baska said. “I am making a blanket with a dinosaur design printed in the fabric.”
