On 17th February, The SVSU swimming and diving program concluded their regular season on a high note with their Second Chance meet, hosted at home this past Saturday afternoon.
This meet served as a final opportunity for athletes to secure qualifications for the NCAA DII National Championships, set to kick off on Tuesday, 12th March and extend through Saturday, March 16th.
Sam Hudgens demonstrated exceptional form, scoring 286.05 and 209.32 in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives respectively, while Cailey Mills exhibited her prowess with scores of 285.00 and 249.52 in the same events.
In the swimming events, SVSU Cardinals proved their mettle with a strong presence. Andrea Bustos, Hannah Martin Cook, Emily Solarski, and Samantha Fowler represented the women’s team with grace and tenacity. Meanwhile, Christian Rottier, Brodey Millerov, and Joao Pedro Noguera showcased their skills on the men’s side.
Notable performances included Martin Cook’s impressive times of 57.98 and 2:04.98 in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke respectively, Solarski’s swift 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.75, and Bustos’ commendable finish in the 200-yard freestyle clocking in at 1:55.10.
Fowler wrapped up the competition for the women’s team with a strong showing in the 400-yard individual medley, finishing with a time of 4:29.41.
On the men’s side, Rottier and Millerov demonstrated their skill in the 100-yard breaststroke, with Rottier finishing in 55.85 seconds and Millerov close behind with a time of 57.92 seconds. Pedro Noguera impressed in the 100-yard butterfly, concluding his event with a time of 50.36.
With the regular season behind them, the SVSU swim and dive team now looks forward to the pinnacle of collegiate competition, the NCAA DII National Championships. With nearly a month of preparation ahead, the athletes are poised to make waves at the five-day championship event, to be held at Sprite Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
