SVSU hosted its Fall University-Wide Employment Fair on Friday, Sept. 20, from 12 PM to 3 PM in the Ryder Center East Arena. This event presented a valuable opportunity for students and alumni from all majors to explore career paths, find internships, co-ops, part-time jobs, and full-time positions, as well as network with potential employers.

The employment fair, a cornerstone event in SVSU’s career services calendar, aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry by bringing together a diverse array of employers and job seekers.

Sarah Binder, Student Development specialist said, “There are 80 employers attending across all over the industries.” Attendees are advised to dress professionally and bring multiple copies of their resumes, as they will have the chance to meet with various employers throughout the event.

In an effort to maximize opportunities for participants, SVSU has partnered with Handshake, a leading career development platform. Students and alumni can register on Handshake to view the full list of attending employers, allowing them to research and prepare for interactions with companies of interest.

This year’s fair also marks a significant step towards inclusivity in career events. SVSU has joined forces with Dow and Michigan Rehabilitation Services to create a more disability-friendly employment fair. Those requiring accommodation are encouraged to fill out a dedicated form at least two weeks prior to the event.

Dr. Jane Smith, Director of Career Services at SVSU, emphasized the importance of the event: “The Fall Employment Fair is a crucial nexus point for our students and alumni to connect with potential employers. It’s not just about finding a job; it’s about exploring career paths and building professional networks that can shape futures.”

Students and alumni from all academic backgrounds were encouraged to attend this comprehensive career event. With the combination of diverse employment opportunities, networking possibilities, and SVSU’s commitment to inclusivity, the Fair promises to be a pivotal event for those looking to launch or advance their careers.

As the job market continues to evolve, events like this play a crucial role in bridging the gap between academia and industry. They provide students with real-world exposure to professional environments and help them understand the skills and qualifications sought by employers in their fields of interest.
