On February 13th, the Lot[us] Project orchestrated a poignant event centered around emotional maturity at SVSU. As the first program of the semester, it marked a significant step towards prioritizing mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
Founded in 2022, the Lot[us] Project, an RSO (Registered Student Organization), has consistently aimed to illuminate the path through dark times. Comprised of dedicated students, their mission revolves around fostering a campus environment that embraces openness, community, and holistic health.
The president of the Lot[us] project, Isabella Provenzano, a sophomore year Education major spoke about the event.
“Our event right now valentine day event a station take valentine from a stranger and give to a stranger,” she said. “Every semester we have three different types of events about physical, mental and emotional this is our emotional health event. Getting a valentine and having positive information or something else, just to brighten your day and foster your emotional health on each valentine that you get in. We also have a jar where they can guess how many candy hearts are in a jar to win a Starbucks gift card.”
Madalynn Kate, social media coordinator of Lot[us], Double major in History and Black Studies, junior student also chimed in to explain the event.
“In this event we going to do emotional loneliness.” She said. “Valentine’s day is tomorrow, and that can be hard day for some people. So, we are just doing is you get to write a letter to a stranger, and then you also get to take a letter from a stranger just kind of put some, like, good energy into the world. “
Kate further explained the intended impact of the event.
“You know today is a tough day for a lot of people because of the MSU shooting, so we are just trying to, like, bring everybody together for like a sense community building.” She said. “Here we have lot of student who have family friends who go to MSU or who have been to MSU themselves too kind of like coming together to remember that day. Valentine’ s day is hard for some people and just kind of feeling that love from others is important.”
