On Thursday 15th February Forever Red hosted an event called 5 under 5 where one recent graduate in each of SVSU’s five colleges shared their experiences during the college life of SVSU and the post college experience. This event is a part of Forever Red’s I Heart SV Week, taking place from February 12th to the 15th.
The program started with the introduction of the 5 Alumni of each five colleges from SVSU. The attendees included Riley Myers, who graduated in 2022 with a degree in Political Science, Macy Docken, who graduated in 2023 with a degree in Public Health, Robert J. Key, who graduated in 2023 with a degree in Secondary Education, Crystal Johnson, who earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2022, and Brohe Elward, who earned a BBA in Marketing in Dec. 2021.
All of them spoke about their favorite memories and extracurricular activities during their college life at
SVSU. Myers talked about her involvement of Law club SVSU and many other extracurricular activities.
Docken reminisced about her experiences at SVSU.
“I was a board member the VPM enhance for one year and created our little thankful Thursdays, so that was like one of my big extra curriculars.” She said. “I also was an orientation leader for three years and I was a pure AB kid, so I worked with all our lovely freshmen coming in.”
Key mentioned that during SVSU life he was involved heavily with his living center councils his first couple of years, and he was an occasional member of the pie club because he enjoyed pie, besides he was a member of the history club for a few days, and he was a member of Forever Red during time at SVSU.
Key explained his ties with SVSU’s Forever Red.
“Four years attending SVSU I was a manger and then a committee, chair of Alumni Author Committee and the president for two years of Forever Red. I was also orientation leader on campus.” Key said.
The panel members gave their suggestions for students trying to make the most of their time at college.
Key summed up his views on the matter, stating “My biggest advice for students be passionate about I involved many organizations try to do where your interests are. And involve more on and off campus activities and make connections it will help career development.”
