SVSU Men’s basketball VS. Ferris state recap

Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball was defeated by the Ferris State Bulldogs 78-72.

Junior guard Toodles Seal prevailed as a top scorer at 23 points. This was the seventh straight game Seal scored 20+ points for the team. In addition, he had five steals and two rebounds.

Kevonne Taylor started the game off with a layup with an assist from Tre Garrett to tie the game.

Beyond the arc, Maurice Anderson made a shot cutting the Bulldogs lead to one point. A block shot by Taylor leading to a dunk put the Cardinals up 18-17.

Baskets were exchanged back and forth before the Bulldogs held their 25-22 lead with about ten minutes left in the first half. Ferris State had back-to-back three-point shots which gave the Bulldogs a strong lead.

Freddie McIntosh cut their lead in half with a three-pointer of his own. Ethan Hill also made two free throws to bring the score to 35-32 in favor of the Bulldogs. Seal was able to flip the leads to the Cardinals 36-35 with about two minutes left.

A deep shot was made by McIntosh to extend the Cardinal’s lead to 39-35. Ferris was able to stop their run with a three-point jumper.

Dylan West continued to add shots for SVSU and closed the first half off with a 42-38 Cardinal lead.

The second half started with Seal making a jumper and a three-point shot to extend SVSU’s lead. This lead continued to grow to 51-40 before Ferris State had an 11-0 run to tie the game.

Seals came back with two more buckets and Garret made a three-point shot for a 7-0 run. Ferris responded with a 9-0 run however and flipped the lead to their flavor.

Garret tied the game off though at 60 with a layout as the game moved into its last few minutes. The teams exchanged baskets and leads until Ferris State had a 5-0 run. With about five minutes left Ferris State was leading 67-63.

The game came down to the wire with the Cardinals fighting for the win and possession of the ball. Two three-pointers from the Bulldogs extended their lead to 75-67.

With four minutes left Seal and Garret hit buckets to diminish FSU’s lead. However, some missed free throws made the comeback difficult leading to FSU winning.

With a total of 17 points was Garrett. In addition, he had eleven rebounds. McIntosh had two assists and ten points in the game. Hill scored ten points and two rebounds.
