Monster House (2006)
I watched “Monster House,” a 2006 PG-rated horror movie, for the first time this October. I like to think its comedy and animation style would have shaped me into a more funny, creative person than I am today if I watched it as an impressionable kid, but it’s better late than never.
Its comedic timing and delivery is perfect for both kids and adults to enjoy. The animation is uncanny, but it really adds to the horror of the film. The framing, pace, and music capture the perfect horror film, and you should give it a watch this Halloween.

Hocus Pocus (1993)
This movie has it all when it comes to a good Halloween movie for me — ghosts and ghouls, black cats, a cozy storyline, and childhood nostalgia to boot. Between the sassy characters, classic storytelling, and fabulous costuming, Hocus Pocus is a classic that I need to watch during spooky season, and you should too.

Spookley the Square Pumpkin (2004)
Spookley is a children’s classic! I read the storybook version with my fourth-grade students today, and they absolutely loved it. Spookley gets bullied by the other pumpkins for being square, but when a storm comes through, it turns out he has an advantage. Spookley gets to be the hero and block a hole in the fence so the other pumpkins don’t roll away. The farmer realizes Spookley’s value and plants more diverse pumpkins the next year. It’s animated, heartwarming, and the perfect film for the Halloween season.

Hubie Halloween (2022)
There is nothing better than a crisp fall night, and Adam Sandler popping up on your screen. “Hubie Halloween” is a perfect mix of silly and spooky, and there are plenty of twists and turns in the film. With Mrs. Dubois’ thrifted shirts, the unexpected Shaquille O’Neal cameo, and life-saving soup, this is undoubtedly a must-watch Halloween movie. Hubie Dubois left me wishing that I was a Halloween safety monitor exploring the streets of Salem on Halloween with my thermos by my side.
