Starting Wednesday, Apr. 9, and running through a matinee on Sunday, Apr. 13, SVSU’s theatre department will be running their own production of Legally Blonde: The Musical!

Jenna Glazier and Stephanie Crachiolo, who portray characters in the musical set in Elle Woods’ world at Harvard Law, shared their thoughts on the production.

Glazier, a senior ecology, evolution, and organismal biology major, plays Paulette Buonofuonte.

“I would describe Paulette as a dog-loving, free spirit, who never lets others’ expectations affect her attitude,” Glazier said. “I portray her as a very passionate woman with a go-getting personality.”

Crachiolo, a junior music major, plays Vivanne Kensington.

“Vivienne knows exactly what she wants for her life and has a plan to achieve those goals,” Crachiolo said. “In the musical, … it’s Vivienne … who offers encouragement and reassures Elle that she has more than proved herself and deserves everything she’s worked for.”

Glazier spoke about how the musical differs from the original movie.

“Our production differs a bit from the movie version,” she said. “There are a few moments removed so that certain scenes and relationships can be elongated and elaborated on, usually through song.”

Both actors have a favorite song in the musical.

“My favorite song in the show is “Bend and Snap” because that was always my favorite scene in the movie,” Glazier said.

“My favorite song is Positive because it’s such a high energy song with the Delta Nu’s supporting Elle through a hard time,” Crachiolo added. “It’s also one that tends to get stuck in my head a lot because … [it’s] super catchy.”

Glazier hopes that Legally Blonde will empower its audience.

“I hope people come to see Legally Blonde: The Musical and leave feeling empowered to pursue anything their heart desires,” she said. “Some of the characters in this show go through personal journeys … that lead them to … [see] that anything can be achieved with passion and hard work.”

Crachiolo carries a similar message, hoping audiences leave more confident than they came.

“I hope audiences will … see that you don’t have to change who you are to meet someone else’s expectations,” she said. “There are multiple characters throughout the show who go through this sort of realization, and it’s really special to see how the characters support each other through these moments.”

Both actors have had positive experience working on the set.

Legally Blonde is one of the most fun musicals I’ve ever been a part of,” Glazier said. “The music is energetic and exciting; the cast and crew have the same energy toward making this show great.”

Crachiolo’s remarks were similar: “It’s such a fun show,” she said. “From the exciting songs, the incredible set, the amazing cast and crew and lighthearted nature of the show as a whole, it’s just an overall good time.”

Glazier wanted to make the audience aware of special cast members.

“Make sure to come to see special guest appearances by Jojo as Bruiser Woods and Cece as Rufus Buonofuonte,” she said.

People can purchase tickets ahead of the show or at the box office before the performance for $15 each. More information about the production can be found on SVSU theater’s Instagram, @svsu_theatre_department.
