Ready to get out there and try something new? Well, this week you will not have to travel far. SVSU is hosting a range of different events which could be a great chance to experience something new or support your fellow students.
The first activity is a reoccurring activity hosted by Doan Marketplace and the Office of Diversity Programs. They bring together various dishes inspired by African-American culture and it is called “Taste of Soul”.
It is a part of SVSU Black History Month events. It will be held on February 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and is open to anyone on campus. The only cost is one meal swipe or $12.25 to get into Doan Market Place.
By going to this event, you can not only learn more about African American culture but also feel comforted by these well-known foods. Soul food typically consists of homemade mac and cheese, beans, rice, mashed potatoes, and more!
Besides trying new food and learning about Black History Month, another event on campus is the theatrical farce called “Noises Off”. The farce will be performed from Wednesday, February 21 through Saturday, February 25. The tickets cost $15 and the doors open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30.
I am sure there is an abundance of upperclassmen who have never been to one of SVSU’s productions yet. Now is a great time as any to start. If you are nervous about going by yourself take a friend along too!
Written by Micheal Frayn the farce is a look at behind-the-scenes from unstable actors to overworked stage crew.
By watching “Noises Off” you can support your fellow students and be able to experience a theatrical performance without walking further than Curtis Hall. Performances are also unique as a live performance is different from any TV show or movie you may watch. Each performance is varied as well because the cast tailors it to their audience.
The performers, stage crew, and countless others have put an enormous amount of work into this production so by going to it you can support their effort.
This week be sure to go experience some truly unparalleled activities on campus! Also, bring all of your friends so you can enjoy getting out of your comfort zone together!
