Movies vs. Books, and why books are objectively better

Ever wondered why people like to read so much? Yeah, guess not. But why do people like reading? Why not just watch a movie or TV show? Maybe even a YouTube video? Well, there may be a reason.

Sure, movies are a lot quicker to tell a story than a book and require a lot less imagination to “see” what is happening in the story. But when considering fantastical stories (A genre I give special privilege to and the genre I specifically write in), movies require a lot more tools to tell the story like CGI, green screen, pyrotechnics, and whole lot of other special effects to immerse the viewers in the story being told.

Books need no such special effects. Like any other book, fantasy books need only to describe any magnificent scenes that are inconceivable in real life. Magic, mythical beings, and superheroes can be easily put into the story of a book. Authors need only to describe their ideas fully and clearly in writing for people to understand what’s happening in the story.

Readers can also get multiple more perspectives from books that movies would find hard to achieve. The author can change between multiple character’s perspectives in the book and even tell the reader of character’s thoughts and feelings without the character having to say them. So, books make it a whole lot easier to understand characters’ actions in the story.

In addition to this, books are a lot more detailed than movies. Movie quality can entirely depend on the budget. Books are not restricted in this way and can be as descriptive as the author pleases. These specifics draw attention to important details that may go unnoticed by movie viewers. These details can also make it easier for authors to develop the characters as they are not restricted to a two-hour motion picture.

Books may take a lot longer to experience, but that experience is worth it to readers all over the world. The unlimited amount of detail, development, and perspective that can be poured into the story of a book can heavily outweigh the visual elements of many motion pictures.
