On Thursday, Feb. 8, Delta Sigma Pi (DSP), held the Business of Valentine’s Day.

The Valentine’s Day-themed event intended to “inspire and expose students to creative business ideas during the Valentine’s Day season,” according to third-year International Business & Political Science student, and President-Elect of the SVSU Mu Phi Chapter, Rhea Schultz.

When asked about the impact the event has on students, Schultz described the event as “allowing a chance to interact with other CCB students, as well as to remind aspiring business majors that running a business doesn’t always have to be about the dollar amount, rather the consumer engagement and appreciation of services.”

Third-year international business major and Vice President of Professional Activities, Natalie Cummins, mentioned the importance of the event:

“It allows potential pledges to get a taste for what it’s like to be a brother,” she said. “Pledges have the opportunity to socialize and network while decorating cookies and learning about business.”

The event, which occurred in Curtiss Hall from 6-8pm included topics including the hidden history of Valentines, marketing opportunities through the holiday, how companies maximize profits for Valentine’s Day, and how spending changes during the holiday as well.

“The intention was to be for fun, which is part of learning,” Schultz added, “we decorated Valentine’s Day cookies and socialized/ talked most of the time.”

Cummins mentions focusing on major branding identities during the holidays.

“With Valentine’s Day as a holiday, having one of the strongest visual identities in marketing, we were also able to analyze how different companies, like M&M and Hulu, engage with people during the holiday,” she said.

“DSP is a great resource for those looking to expand their networks and learn more about the different functions of business. Recognized as America’s best business fraternity, DSP looks amazing on a resume around the country.” Cummins remarked.

Moving into a new semester of recruitment, Shultz talks about what she’s excited about moving forward. “As newly appointed president, I’m excited to see how the rest of recruitment and this semester shapes the future,” Schultz concluded.
