Preview: Manufacturing and Technology employment fair

The job search after completing your courses can often seem like a daunting task when beginning to look into the career field of your choosing, but one thing Cardinals are lucky to have is experienced staff that know a thing or two regarding working for the company or receiving the position at a job you deserve.

Lizzi Hubble-Radosa, Assistant Director of Career Services described the Manufacturing & Information Technology Fair (MIT), saying that

“The fair is held every year in January this year taking place on January 23, 2024 from 3pm – 5pm.” She said. “This fair brings employers from all over Michigan looking to hire students and alumni in the fields of manufacturing and Information Technology,” with the MIT job fair being available to “Any students, alumni or community members interested in STEM related careers– including Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Computer Science, to name a few.”

When asked what the impact of the fair has for students, Hubble-Radosa was excited to mention how

“[the] fair not only provides job opportunities but also lets students research possible future employers, exploring companies they might not have heard about or considered.” She said.

”It’s also a great way to network with recruiters, most of whom are SVSU alumni”

Regarding opportunities, there were many to name,

“First starting with networking opportunities, that allow students to connect with industry professionals, recruiters, and representatives from leading companies in manufacturing and information technology.” She stated. “Second, career insights, where students can gain valuable insights into the latest trends, technologies, and career paths within these dynamic sectors, and lastly, job and internship opportunities, of course, where those searching can discover potential job and internship openings, and learn about the hiring processes of top companies.”

When asked about the employers who would be involved with the fair, the Assistant Director mentioned,

“We have 23 employers who will be attending including 6 of our employer partners: Amigo Mobility International, Auto-Owners Insurance, Hemlock Semiconductor, Michigan State Police, MyMichigan Health, Saginaw Control and Engineering.”

“We also post a Tip Tuesday series on our social media channels (facebook, instagram) offering resume preparation tips, and ways to prepare for fairs.” she said. “We also include reasons why students should attend via an email series targeted to students. A few things students can do to be prepared for the event includes bringing multiple copies of your resume, dressing professionally to make a lasting impression, preparing thoughtful questions for company representatives, and being open to exploiting new opportunities and expanding your network.”

For those that are looking for future events hosted by SVSU Career Services, students can visit the University Wide Spring Employment Fair on 2/2 from 12pm – 3pm in the Ryder Center East Arena.

“With over 100 employers covering all majors and industries, this is the top place to also look for summer internships, they fill up fast, so don’t wait!” Hubble-Radosa said.

“It’s never too early to begin your career readiness journey,” Hubble Radosa mentioned, “Build your story and expand your network by using these opportunities– don’t let them pass you by.”

Please note that the Manufacturing and Technology Information fair has been postponed and combined with the upcoming Spring employment fair. Further updates will be communicated by Career Services.
