Last Friday, Cards Trading Cards got together for their monthly meeting
The President, third year student Lucas Luna, explained what this club is about.
“This club is basically a get-together of students that enjoy art and want to create art themselves.” Luna said “we trade little baseball cards [that are] about 2.5 x 3.5-inch miniature works of art”
Luna also went on to explain that prompts are given each month to have variety in the type of art created.
Lita Weekly, a 4th student and longtime member of the club, offered some interesting insight into what led to its creation.
“The club was originally started [due to] the idea of mail art”
Mail art began when artists began to send postcards inscribed with poetry and drawings through the mail rather than selling them through conventional commercial channels.
Weekly went into further detail on the way the club operates.
“We always make at least three a month, we also don’t personally trade with them … [the cards] get put into a pool and you get back what you gave in.”
Members are also encouraged to try new mediums when it comes to trading card art.
The club meets at the last Friday of every month at 5pm in the Wedge lounges.
