Tre Garrett is a graduate student playing for the Men’s Basketball team, regardless of his past as a football player.
Garrett chose SVSU because “SVSU is close to home,” something he values highly. He was excited to be given the opportunity to play for the team, and even more excited that his family could come watch him on the courts.
Garrett also mentioned the influence of his teammates, saying he’s always admired their leadership and that he “wants to be just like them in his own way.”
When asked his favorite part of playing for SVSU, his teammates were yet again, the answer.
Facing the challenge of other athletes from GLIAC is another favorite aspect of this sport that Garrett loves.
Garrett plans to graduate in Dec. 2024 with his master’s in public health. On the court, Garrett has different goals. He plans to help lead his team to the GLIAC Conference Championships and the NCAA Division 2 Championships.
His future goal with basketball is, “to go pro”, along with many others on the team and across the country.
“The team has a nice combination of returning veteran players with some new, talented guys,” Garrett says when asked about the team goals for the year.
He also commented on their drive and hard work through the offseason.
The SVSU Men’s Basketball Team will play their first game against Rochester University on Nov. 6, and their first home game on Nov. 10, against Malone University.
