Cardinal Confections held a “Cookie Wars” event in Science East from 8:30 to 10 p.m on Monday, Sept. 21.
The goal of this event was to get the community together in a baking contest, where the best cookie-baker was awarded a baking-themed prize basket. The winner of the event, Gabrielle Czuba, won the award basket for baking the best voted cookie of the evening.
Cardinal Confections is a baking-oriented RSO that focuses on building and spreading baking as a hobby to SVSU’s community. It was founded in the fall 2025 semester by Faith Monroe, a third-year SVSU student.
In an interview with Monroe, the current president of Cardinal Confections, she noted that the RSO has grown significantly this semester.
“Last year, the same event had 15-20 people. Monday, we had roughly 60 in attendance,” she stated.
The event was larger than expected for the group, with Monroe also stating that there were between 400 and 500 total cookies.
Dan Harris, a fourth-year SVSU student, attended the event as well, also revealing his thoughts about the event’s turnout, showing a similar surprise to that of Monroe’s.
When asked what his favorite part about the event was, Harris replied “Creativity. I love seeing and trying so many options.”
Students can expect to see more events from Cardinal Confections, as they host similar events every other Monday night. Recently, they held an Info Night, and students interested in baking can watch for future events to participate in.
