On Thursday, Jan. 3, three Cardinal football players were named to the 2018 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region 3 team for their efforts during the 2018 season.
Sophomore wide receiver Chad Gailliard, junior defensive tackle Heath Williams and senior linebacker Michael Alexander received the honors. Each of these players were named to the All-GLIAC First Team earlier last year as well.
Gailliard finished out the season ahead of all other receivers in the league in receptions (63), touchdowns (12), yards (1,005) and yards per game (91.4). Two of his 12 touchdowns were game-winning catches, and Cardinal fans have grown con dent in their team in the clutch, as well as in the dynamic passing duo of Gailliard and junior quarterback Ryan Conklin.
Gailliard sits in eighth place in receiving yards among Cardinals all-time with 1,939 on his career and only two years behind him. He was also named to the D2CCA All- Super Region 3 Second Team at the conclusion of the season.
Williams, leading force for the Cardinal defense this year, finished the season at the top of the GLIAC in both sacks (13) and tackles-for-loss (19). He stepped up in big ways when the Cardinals needed him most, posting his season-high seven tackles in two tightly matched overtime victories. He ended with an impressive 56 tackles on the season, being a large reason the Cardinal defense finished second in the league as a whole, holding opponents to an average of just 16.6 points per game. Williams, too, was named to the D2CCA All-Super Region 3 Second Team.
Alexander, in his last season with Saginaw Valley, finished on a high note. He led the GLIAC in both tackles (117) and tackles per game (10.6). His career tackle count reached 291 by the end of the year, ranking him 13th among Cardinals all- time.

He was named defensive player of the week after a shutout victory against Michigan Tech in which he posted 13 tackles.
These players will move on to a national ballot that the 2018 Don Hansen NCA A Division II All-American team will be selected from.
