As the wind gets colder and the air gets chillier, fall is in full swing. Though, before we start carving the turkey, we cannot forget to carve the pumpkins!

As the star weekend of spooky season approaches, you may be running dry on ways that to celebrate the last days of October. Whether you need a reminder of the classics or are in need of fresh, new traditions to start, I’ve got you covered.

  1. Carve pumpkins

This is already a tradition for many, but it can be changed up a little to bring something fresh. One idea is to have a pumpkin carving contest with friends. This can be a great way to get some inspiration or find a new talent (and win bragging rights, of course).

Alternatively, freehanding faces on pumpkins nearly always leads to some wonderful creations. Sketch out an expression before starting, or use creative freedom along the way. From classic jack-o-lanterns to freaky pumpkins with wiggling tongues, the possibilities are endless.

  1. Attend a costume party

Millions have dressed up for Halloween every year since birth, but for some, the tradition has fallen off the radar. Halloween costumes are one of the most iconic and exciting parts of Halloweekend!

Costumes may seem pricey, and they can be, but there are also possibilities with pieces many already have in their closets. Some people may be crafty enough to sew their own costume, or they may have an award-worthy wardrobe already planned. Either way, costumes are an essential part of the holiday.

Costume parties take the fun up a notch. Host a themed costume party (famous singers, decades, inside jokes, etc.) or let everyone’s imaginations run wild with no theme at all.

Additionally, if a furry friend is tolerant of the situation, some incredible pet costumes are sure to make for memorable pictures.

  1. Halloween-themed Just Dance

Just Dance was a staple in most American childhoods, and many still have partial or full dances memorized to this day (guilty).

For a touch of nostalgia and more than a touch of sweat, a great festive activity could be playing some — or all —of the Halloween-related Just Dance songs. Think “This is Halloween” and “Time Warp.”

  1. Bake some pumpkin goods

Though controversial, pumpkin is the food mascot of the season. Whether an enjoyer or hater, there are nearly infinite ways that the fruit (yes, the fruit) can be turned into a delicious treat that fits the season.

A great way to incorporate pumpkin into baking for someone who may not love the pumpkin flavor is pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. Honorable mention goes to pumpkin roll, a classic treat that tends to be a hit even among the more neutral pumpkin-tasters.

Try taking a couple of these ideas and add them to current (or newly found) Halloweekend plans. Whether reinstating old traditions or picking up a new activity, these ideas are bound to get the creativity flowing on how to add a bit of fun fright to Halloween.
