SVSU’s Career Services hosts Spring Employment Fair

Saginaw Valley State University’s Career Services is scheduled to host the Spring University-Wide Employment Fair in the Ryder Center East Arena, Jan. 31, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Throughout the year there are multiple employment fairs held on campus, but this one in particular is not limited to any one career path. There will be companies that represent agriculture, human services, education, construction, nursing and so much more. The employers that will be attending the event can all be found on Handshake.

Haden Brick, a Career Services representative, spoke about the event.

“The SVSU Spring University-Wide Fair entails many employers eager to get to know students interested in their industry as well as potential position hiring,” Brick continued. “This fair will also have our professional headshot station available for students to use as well.”

“Students should prepare for the event by getting their resume reviewed by Career Services as well as stopping by the Cardinal Closet to ensure they have professional clothing for the event,” mentioned Brick.

The Cardinal Closet is located on the second floor of Wickes Hall across from the Career Services office, and they are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. Students can take up to three articles of clothing per visit, and they do not need to return the clothes.

Even if students are not currently looking for a job, they are still invited to join the fair. Students may not feel like it is necessary to go to a career fair when they are not looking for a job, but they can benefit from it in many ways. The employment fair can help create connections with employers that could benefit the student in the future.

Molly Eickholt, a sophomore criminal justice major, is planning to attend the event at the Ryder Center.

“I think that students can benefit from a career fair by finding out possible career opportunities from many other areas, and the career fair can help lead students into finding a career they want to pursue and possible connections.”

SVSU students may seem like the main target for this event, but so many others are welcomed to join the employment fair. Students, alumni, and the community are all able to attend the event. This gives a wide variety of people the chance to utilize everything Career Services will have to offer at the event.

To RSVP and get reminders about the employment fair, go to the Career Services website to get the link to register for the event through Handshake.
