Le nid des cardinaux kicked off celebration of the spooky season by hosting a festive event this Wednesday. They mixed French traditions with Halloween in all its glory. The event, ‘Halloween and Touisannt’s Celebration’ brought in students of diverse backgrounds and ages.

The evening’s primary goal was to develop connections among attendees by discovering common interests. Going around the table, everyone shared fun facts and quirks which served as an effective ice breaker for new members. A story told by a student from Tanzania who had hugged a lion turned faces and gauged everyone’s interest. Laughs, eccentricities and stories were the main highlight of the event excluding a few students who concentrated all their efforts on decorating their round canvas.

Toussaint is a French Holiday which commemorates All Saints’ Eve. This French custom recognizes fallen loved ones. A holiday engulfed by camaraderie and the essence of family, the event organizers emulated that element of family while preserving the tradition of Halloween. Collin Airsman, an animation major and a sophomore commented on the event

“What I like about this club is how everyone comes together and learn about each other,” he said.  “I like learning about new cultures and connecting with other people in meetings.”

“Natalie (the club’s President), also [convinced me] to join this club and I am happy I joined.”

The French club also aims to dispel misconceptions about prerequisites to join the club.

Lily Breanne, a senior criminal justice major and the Club’s Vice President stressed:

“People think you need to know French to be a member of our club,” she said. “It definitely helps to know the language, but we just want to show the beauty of the French culture.”

Breanne values her study abroad experience in Lille, France and is excited to bring a little bit of France to Michigan.

”We might go to Frankenmuth next semester, and we feel so lucky that we can experience the French culture in Michigan as well as we can gorge on Beignets and Crepes with our members.”
