The History Club RSO is accepting new members. They meet every other Tuesday in Brown 214 at 4 PM.
Madalynn Paquette, a third-year history and Black studies double major and president of the RSO, spoke about the club.
“We usually discuss stuff from our classes and go over planning events,” she said. “we all love to talk about random things in history like pirates and ships. We also talk about current events and how they tie into history. It is a relaxed environment overall.”
“History often gets a poor image as it is associated with being boring,” she continued. “You just have to find your interest and what engages you.”
“History is connected to nearly every major/minor here on campus,” she said. “We would love to hear how history fits into political science, philosophy, criminal justice, chemistry, art, and other majors/minors.”
Justin Hamman, a second-year history major and vice president of the History Club, also spoke about the RSO. “History is connected to everything in our lives whether it is the things we learn in school or events that happen around us,” he said. “This club will help everyone learn history that is connected to them.”
“History … helps us understand how events in the past made things the way they are today,” he continued. “(It also) helps us avoid mistakes and create better paths for our societies and it builds a better understanding of the world and humanity.”
The next meeting will be Tues., Feb. 27 in Brown 214 at 4 PM. More information and upcoming events can be found on Instagram at @svsu_ historyclub or on CORQ.
