On and Off Campus Events to Try in the Community

No matter if you have lived on campus for three days or three years, there are always new things you can challenge yourself with. However, many people are set in their routines and don’t think about how they could get involved or what activities they can do on campus or off.

How many of you have adventured outside of campus into the community? Or have done a new activity on campus in the past few weeks? If your answer is no to either or both of these questions, this bucket list column is for you.

Each week I am going to bring one event on campus and one event off campus that I challenge the readers to do. This is a way to get you to experience new cultures and activities while sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone. Let’s look into the events planned this week.

The first is an on-campus event hosted by the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, the Student Association, and the Organization of Black Unity. The event is called Hustle and Soul Decades Dance. It will take place on February 8th from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the TSAR.

By attending this dance, you can meet new people, make memories with friends, and something all college students love – free stuff! Food and drink will be provided. There is also a photo booth to capture memories, a best-dressed contest for prizes and a raffle.

All you need to attend is your student ID, any dance moves you have – yes even the sprinkler – and a decades outfit. If you are worried about the loud music affecting you, do not worry! The dance is a silent disco, meaning you will receive headphones playing the music. You can control how loud you want the volume and which channel you are listening to.

If you are feeling more adventurous, have a car, or can carpool, the featured off-campus event this week is ice skating in downtown Frankenmuth. On February 7th, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., there will be 2000’s themed ice-skating night. The event also has a best-themed dress outfit contest if you are interested.

There is a price, however, to ice skate which is $10 for skating and $3 if you need rentals. For ice skating this is relatively cheap, especially considering this covers the cost of four hours of fun! That being said, you do not have to stay the entire time or skate the entire time.

Either, or both of these events would be great to add to your bucket list and allow you a chance to push yourself outside your comfort zone or experience new parts of the community you never knew about.

Stay tuned each week to see what events there are to enhance your college experience!
