Morgan Fiedler, 1st year Master of Public Health student and Chapter President of NRHH– the National Residence Hall Honorary, spoke out on behalf of the group which advocates for the interests and welfare of residence hall students around the country regarding their recent “cats for a cause” event.
Feidler mentioned her origins with the organization.
“I joined NRHH as a first-year undergrad student back in Winter of 2020,” she said. “I became involved in the organization because I wanted to pursue leadership opportunities in the campus community, and I loved that NRHH aligned with my passion for service.”
Feilder then explained her current position in the organization.
“I currently hold the position of chapter president and I became involved on the E-board level because of the mentorship and guidance of our advisor Joey Koehn,” she said “He had such a strong vision for what our chapter could be that I was incredibly excited to step up into the role.”
Feidler went on to explain how the organization impacts the local community.
“NRHH does provide monthly service opportunities in partnership with our Cardinals in Action First Year Leadership Program,” she said. “For November, we will be taking a group of students to the Pet Angel Adoption & Rescue center. In addition, we will be hosting our Shine Bright recognition event to highlight the amazing work that has been done on campus this semester.”
When asked about the event, Feidler described what goes into Cats for a Cause.
“It’s a service event that allows SVSU students to create cat toys out of t-shirts that we received as donations from Student Association and RHA,” she said, “We then take the toys and other donation materials to the chosen animal shelter for that semester.”
She elaborated on this year’s event.
“This semester, we have been working with SVSU Alum Abby Engel who is the Executive Director for Pet Angel Adoption & Rescue in Frankenmuth.”
The program was hosted on Oct. 23 in Science East, room 117 and the second round will be on Nov. 5 at 4:30 p.m, with the location soon to be announced.
The NRHH chapter is also looking to recruit service-minded students to join us with our efforts for volunteer work, leadership on campus, and recognition. If anyone is interested, they can reach out to Morgan Fiedler at mefiedle@svsu.edu
