One of SVSU’s newest RSO’s, Crafty Cardinals, held a craft sale on Oct. 17 and 19.
During the sale, members of the Eboard socialized with community members outside of the library while selling various crafts made by themselves and members of the club.
Items for sale included bags, scrunchies, coasters, and more. These items were a sample of the crafts that students might have an opportunity to learn as part of the club.
Olivia Konsdorf, Crafty Cardinals President and Junior Ecology Evolution and Organismal Biology Major, is one of the founders of the RSO. She, along with a few others, aspired to launch a crafting club in past semesters. She was able to make the idea come to fruition this semester.
“We’ve been talking about this since last March,” Konsdorf said. “I realized we don’t have any crocheting clubs on campus, and I knew a lot of people who would be interested in that.”
The initial idea of a crocheting club blossomed into more over time, Konsdorf said.
“A lot of people want to learn how to crochet. Also, a lot of people on campus already know how to crochet but they didn’t have a club to go to,” Konsdorf said. “Crocheting was our start but then we thought people might also want to knit, sew or embroider too, so we have incorporated that.”
Abigal Decess, Ecology Evolution and Organismal Biology junior, added in her hopes for the club:
“[The club serves to] connect others who are on different skill levels. We are open to everyone, and skill level does not apply.”
Crafty Cardinals Event Planner and Marketing junior Morgan Trai, added in feedback that the club has received after the first two meetings:
“A lot of people have said that they really like the club because they want to be around people that like the same thing as them. This gives them a community for that.”
The proceeds from the craft sale will help to provide materials and supplies to those who come to future meetings.
“We are a new club, and we need supplies to host events and allow people to make projects in the club,” Konsdorf said. “Our main goal is to make sure that people don’t have to rely on bringing their own supplies.”
New members are always welcome, and experience isn’t necessary. For more information visit their Instagram @ craftycardinalssvsu.
