On April 15, Saginaw Valley’s softball team played a double header against Purdue Northwest for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
Junior Sydney Herioux scored the single run of the first game in the bottom of the third inning. Herioux made it to first base on a dropped fly ball and then advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Thanks to freshman Katelyn Pnacek’s RBI single, Herioux was able to make the run that won the game.
The second game started with a lead by the Pride with four runs in the first inning, but SVSU came back with two runs scored by senior Jackie Popko and junior Paige Kolinski.

After Purdue scored two more runs, 6-2, junior Alexis Gills hit a home run to half the deficit, but not for long. Purdue Northwest increased its lead by two, 8-3.
The sixth inning changed things for SVSU as they had the bases loaded from a single and two walks. Herioux then hit a single sending Gills and sophomore Paige Thompson home.
The seventh inning was the final push for the Cardinals. Senior Sarah Gersch made it home after her single and a double from Gills. The second game ended as a loss for the Cardinals, 8-7.
Despite the loss, SVSU remains ahead of PNW in the standings for GLIAC as the team earned its 10th win in league play
