On March 10, SVSU traveled to Auburndale Florida to compete against University of Minnesota Duluth. They won 7-5 against the Bulldogs.
SVSU started a game with the lead until Duluth managed four runs in the bottom of the sixth. SVSU matched with four of their own in the next inning and maintained the lead throughout the rest of the game.
The game saw no scores for either team in the first four and a half innings. Junior Tyler McLaren struck out eight throughout five innings. He gave up five runs but only two of them were earned.
Ben Reilley pitched for Duluth. He had five punch outs and one run against.
Duluth scored in the bottom of the fifth with an error which allowed the first runner to get to the home plate.
SVSU came back quickly in the sixth. Junior Jaccar Watkins led with a double. Junior Colin Cornwell walked, and senior Martin Money walked, leading to loaded bases.
Sophomore Austin Schweiger took the lead for SVSU with two-RBI single making the score 2-1. Junior Brandon Scheurer walked to score Money.
The bottom of the sixth saw Duluth bats a solo home run and then a run scoring error to tie 3-3. Duluth pulled into the lead a few bats later with 5-3.
SVSU responded with two singles and a walk that loaded up the bases. Junior Ethan Dufresne tripled into the right-center gap and cleared the bases.
Junior Jeffrey Reseigh singled to score Dufresne and doubled the team’s lead.
SVSU baseball traveled to Davenport Florida on March 11 to wrap up their nine-game stretch against Winona State University.
SVSU won with a score of 7-2, finishing up their week with a record of 5-4.
Junior Steven Hecht started pitching for SVSU. He limited the bats by Winona State. He pitched four innings and struck out six.
He allowed two runs, only one of which earned. Hecht started the game with two scoreless innings.
The bottom of the first saw sophomore Reed Raymond singled. Senior Tucker Roe dropped a sacrifice that allowed Raymond to reach third.
Junior Colin Cornwell bounced into an RBI groundout. The bases were clear and two outs, SVSU added another.
Senior Martin Money singled and junior Ethan Dufresne reached an error which allowed Money to move up to only 90 ft away from the home plate.
Winona took advantage of an error in the third to add one run to their score. They scored another in the fourth, making the score 3-2 for SVSU.
SVSU came back in the bottom of the fourth with a three spot. Junior Jaccar Watkins singled and Roe walked, putting two on for Colin Cornwell. Colin singled which scored Watkins and, on the throw, both he and Roe were able to move up a base.
Junior Christopher Schmees was the first out the pen and pitched two scoreless innings. He allowed one hit, one walk, and struck out three.
Three more pitchers finished out the game. Junior Nick Bastian had two strikeouts and one hit and a walk.
SVSU will play again on Wednesday against Hillsdale.
