SVSU’s men’s basketball team beat Davenport University 95-90 on Feb. 18.
Junior Tre Garrett scored a total of 22 points for SVSU.
He managed to make it one rebound shy of a double-double.
Junior Jarno Pomstra started things off for SVSU with a three-point jumper off an assist from freshman Chansey Willis Jr. in the opening minute of the game.
Davenport tied the score before Willis Jr. made another three and a jumper during a 6-0 run for SVSU. This grew into a 11-5 lead for the team.
Junior Maurice Barnett scored five points and pushed the advantage up to nine with 13 minutes left in the half.
Freshman Kevonne Taylor hit a jump shot that gave the team the games first double-digit advantage.
The lead sat at 53-36 at the half. SVSU came into the second half and pushed the deficit to 26 in the opening five minutes.
Davenport managed a 6-0 run followed by a 9-2 and finished with 5-0 to bring the score up to 89-86.
SVSU hit free throws to seal the win.
The team’s next game will be on Feb. 23.
