Women’s basketball also falls to Michigan Tech, 69-49

On Feb. 4, SVSU’s women’s basketball team suffered a loss to Michigan Tech with a score of 69-49.

Senior Kaitlyn Zarycki led SVSU with 22 points. Senior Tori DePerry wasn’t far behind with nine. Senior Jessica Massey followed with seven.

SVSU came in hot and scored the first basket of the game.

Senior Tyler Scheid made a three-pointer on the first possession.

Tech came back with a 12-0 run that lasted until Zarycki made two free throws, bringing the first quarter to the end, leaving the score at 14-5 for Tech.

SVSU came into the second quarter strong with Zarycki scoring a point, bringing Tech’s lead down to eight.

However, Tech then went on a 13-2 run, bringing it back up to 14.

SVSU played strong in the third quarter with 15 points. Tech scored 13. SVSU also had a 11-2 run, started by senior Jessica Massey.

Tech played hard in the fourth quarter and scored 19 points in the beginning.The team kept the lead through the end.

SVSU will play again on Feb. 9 against Lake Superior State again at Saulte Saint Marie.
