On Feb. 4, SVSU’s men’s basketball team fell to Michigan Tech with a score of 75-67.
This pushed the team back to a conference score of 6-6.
Junior Tre Garrett led the team with a total of 20 points and six rebounds. This isn’t a first for Garrett, who has scored 20-plus points in six games this season.
Junior Jiovanni Miles came in second with a total of 14 points. Junior Maurice Barnett followed with seven points and five rebounds.
Michigan Tech started with a 9-0 run that led the score with 11-2 in the opening five minutes. Miles turned the game around and scored the next five points for SVSU. This cut the deficit to 13-11 before the half.
Freshman Ethan Hill scored the last three points with less than 10 minutes left. This started a 5-0 run and flipped the score for SVSU at 16-14.
The score remained close for the rest of the first half until Tech was able to flip it back to its favor with a 31-27 score.
Freshman Kevonne Taylor made the first shot of the second half for SVSU. This brought SVSU within just two points of the lead. Tech countered with a 5-0 run, bringing the deficit to seven.
Barnett managed a layup, followed by a 7-0 run, however, this wasn’t enough to beat Tech.
