
On Jan. 21, the SVSU women’s basketball team defeated Lake Superior State University (LSSU) with a 70-50 score.
Senior Tyler Scheid started the team off strong by winning the jump ball. Senior Kaitlyn Zarycki quickly took over and scored the opening score for SVSU.
This layup was assisted by senior Tori DePerry.
This started a 12-4 run for SVSU. This run also marked the 1,000th point for DePerry in just the first four minutes of the game.
LSSU turned around and finished the first quarter with a 9-2 run, bringing the game to 26-19.
The second quarter was a bit slower with both teams playing defense. Each team was only able to get a score of eight each.
SVSU saw six steals and the Lakers three. Senior Jessica Massey and Zarycki each had two blocks and three steals during the game.

SVSU started the third quarter off strong and then shifted into defense yet again.
They held a 10-0 run. Senior Tyler Scheid made a three-pointer while Zarycki had two free throws given by LSSU for technical foul.
SVSU managed six steals and only let LSSU get eight points in the third.
Freshman Emma Dziezgowski started the fourth quarter off by scoring a wing three for SVSU.
They continued this streak throughout the rest of the game, outscoring them 18-15 in the fourth.
The next game will be on Jan. 28 in Detroit.
