SVSU’s track and field competed at the twoday track meet at Michigan State University on Friday and Saturday.
The team kicked off the competition with freshman Will Aldrich, sophomore Deven Varela and junior Cavan Wilcox competing in the men’s pole vault.
The men’s team competed well at the meet with multiple placings across the board. Sophomore Trevin Philips placed fourth for the javelin throw, tossing 53.51 meters.
Sophomore Seth Oxer placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with 56.50.
The final event of the day was the 4×400 meter relay where SVSU took first.
The team consisted of junior Quin Broussard, sophomore Ryan Mixan, junior Tyler Burrell and sophomore Ja’kobe Young with 3:25.06 for their time.
Freshman Corey Bowers placed fourth in the 1500-meter competition with 3:50.00.
The women came out strong at the meet, with sophomore Angelina Delbosque taking first in the 100-meter dash with 12.46 seconds.
In the 4×100 meter relay, they had a team of Delbosque, senior Alona Olshevska, freshman Sophia Thelen and freshman Olivia Carpenter, which placed third with 47.55 seconds.
Senior Lauren Buckner took first for the 1500-meter race with 4:34.77.
The women also did well in the 4×400 race.
Buckner, sophomore Jenna Picard, freshman Kailee Sandoval and sophomore Emma Banning made the team and placed first with 4.03.35.
Team scores were not recorded at this meet but the individual strength shined through.
The team will split next weekend for two competitions, one at Lee University and the other at Oakland University.
