Dow Entrepreneurship Institute holds business workshop

The Dow Entrepreneurship Institute (DEI) is hosting its first workshop of the semester to help students with potential business ventures get their ideas off the ground.

Funded by the Herbert H. & Grace A. Dow Foundation, the DEI encourages student entrepreneurship in a multitude of ways.

According to the institute’s webpage, the DEI “stimulates the creation of new business ventures, serves as a resource for research activities aimed at business innovation and provides internship opportunities with area businesses for student entrepreneurs.”

Along with working to strengthen the entrepreneurship curriculum at SVSU and encouraging student creativity, the DEI helps bring students together with faculty and other regional partners to provide guidance and support.

The DEI has three labs enabled with the latest technology to help young entrepreneurs build their business plans. The Wolohan Finance & Data Analytics lab, the Consumer Behavior lab and the Product Innovation lab each provide unique tools for students to access.

The DEI’s first workshop of the winter semester will be The Introduction and Ideation workshop hosted on Monday, Jan. 31.

SVSU finance professor Mohamed Adel is the associate director of the DEI. Adel says that this first workshop will serve as an introductory seminar.

“The purpose of this workshop is to showcase the DEI facilities to the entrepreneurs, introduce them to each other, learn about their ideas and share the DEI winter 2022 plan, which includes pitch competitions with monetary prizes and opportunities to connect with investors and venture capitalists in the region,” Adel said.

Those with specific entrepreneurial ideas are especially encouraged to come and share them at the first meeting, but Adel said all are welcome to join at the workshop.

“You can attend even if you do not have an idea but are interested in learning more about starting a business,” Adel said.

Anyone interested in attending the workshop should email Mohamed Adel at mabulade@svsu.edu expressing their ideas or interest by Monday, Jan. 24 to secure their spot.
