Board of Control happenings

On Feb. 17, the Board of Control unanimously passed a proposal to buy Curtiss Hall for $1. The building is owned by the State Building Authority since it was paid for in bonds in 1996. Since the money has been paid back to the state, SVSU can officially buy the building.

Jim Dwyer, executive director of Alumni Relations, has been working to expand the reach of SVSU to its alumni across the country. Dwyer created a network of alumni who teach in the GLB region. He also created “affinity groups” for Dow employees and graduates in the Metro Detroit region.

SVSU will officially have a women’s lacrosse team starting in Spring 2022. It has functioned as a club sport at SVSU since 2010.

Athletic Director John Decker said lacrosse will be SVSU’s 20th varsity sport. The team will be become the seventh member of the GLIAC. Synthetic turf will replace the natural grass currently on Braddock Field in the summer of 2021 to accommodate the new lacrosse team.
