Volleyball ranked third in GLIAC standings

Over the weekend, the Cardinal volleyball team traveled to Indianapolis for the 2019 Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover. The annual tournament brings together 41 teams from the GLIAC, Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), and Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) to compete in a two-day event.

On Friday, The Cardinals played its first game of the tournament against the University of Indianapolis. This was the second time the teams met this year, with Indianapolis winning the first game.

In the first set, the Cardinals struggled to get the ball moving offensively, as they only managed to score six points. They however were able to bounce back in the second set, fighting a close match with the Greyhounds before eventually winning the set 25-20. The Cardinals kept the momentum going and won the subsequent two sets, sealing the victory in the first game of the tournament.

The highlight of the match came when senior Sarah Tabit recorded her 1,000th career kill in a Cardinal uniform.

The tournament continued Saturday, as the Cardinals started the day with a match against Hillsdale College. The Cardinals faced a tough defense against Hillsdale, as they only were able to score nine points in the first set.

The Cardinals continued to struggle in the match, as Hillsdale would take the next two sets, snapping the Cardinals seven-game win streak.

The Cardinals then played the University of Findlay for the last game of the tournament. After losing the game to Hillsdale, the Cards were able to finally get the ball moving and win in three straight sets over the Oilers.

After the weekend’s tournaments, the Cardinals hold a record of 15-5 and are currently in third place in the GLIAC standings. The Cardinal Volleyball team will be back in action next weekend as it takes on Ashland and Grand Valley at home.
