Interested in having a deeper connection with the community around your campus? In the heart of Downtown Saginaw, an event scheduled for Friday, Sept. 11, may be the opportunity to do just that.
This event will be an alternative music concert, featuring small local bands as part of the 6th annual Fiesta K? Onda known for celebrating Mexican heritage and culture. It takes place at the SVRC Marketplace, Saginaw’s neighborhood marketplace and community hub.
Some SVSU students who live on campus, like senior Calogero Rossi, plan to attend the event.
“The furthest I typically go is down Tittabawassee to Meijer to pick up my groceries, but that’s about it,” Rossi said.
Beyond festivals like this, the SVRC Marketplace is home to a farmers’ market, business incubators, retail shops, and a dining court featuring several local restaurants.
Rossi also mentioned that he is excited for the opportunity to experience more of Mexican culture.
The concert will begin at 5:30 p.m., with local Saginaw band Basement Floor headlining. There will be three opening acts.
