On Sept. 9, Program Board held their first Coffee House event of the year.
Coffee House is a study-hall type event where students can bring friends, listen to music and work on homework together. It takes place in the TSAR every other Monday from 8-9pm.
Monica Bruman, a fourth-year special education major, is Program Board’s Event Planning Intern in charge of putting Coffee House on.
“The Coffee House event was started several years ago,” she said. “[It’s] a way for students to connect, have fun, work on homework, and study together.”
Bruman has been running the event for three years.
“[Coffee House] is a great atmosphere for making new friends, working on homework, listening to music, and we have free snacks,” she said.
“I believe this is an important part of campus life,” she said. “We’re offering a fun and free way for students to meet others with similar classes or who live on campus, while also enjoying snacks and making new friends.”
“This event is meaningful to me because I love seeing people bond, laugh, and still stay productive with their schoolwork,” Bruman said.
“During my freshman year, I formed a study group, and we worked on psychology assignments while
laughing and connecting.”
“Thanks to the bi-weekly Coffee House, I developed deep friendships that lasted throughout the year,” she said.
Rebecca O’Brien, a third-year creative writing major, has been attending the event for three years.
“I come back because I really like the open mic events,” O’Brien said. “I love spending time with my friends and having a nice atmospheric place to do my work.”
Haleigh Holdwick, a fourth-year medical laboratory science major, also enjoys the event.
“It’s a great way to get together with friends and have some snacks,” Holdwick said. “It’s a good place to study and meet new people in a social atmosphere.”
Several people came to Coffee House for the first time, including Sara Cogdill, a second-year nursing major.
“Coffee House is a great way to get out of your dorm with friends or by yourself,” Cogdill said. “It’s a great environment for people who like background noise when studying. I would say there’s good coffee and snacks, what more could you ask for?”
More information can be found on Program Board’s Instagram, @svsu_programboard, on the CORQ app, and Engage. Coffee House will be held next on Monday, Sept. 23 in the TSAR.
