Scarlet’s Showcase showcases SVSU talents on Dec. 1

With the holiday season nearing and exams inching ever closer, some Cardinals are making the season a little brighter by showcasing their talents.

Maggie Bird, fourth year nursing major & president of Cardinal Rhythm and Grace was excited to talk about Scarlet’s Showcase:

“[Showing off] some of our amazing performing arts clubs on campus. It is a show for dancers, singers, and more to perform in front of the school and community,” she said. “This year it is December 1st, at 6:30p.m. in the Malcolm Field Theatre. It is free admission and no tickets are required, so anyone can show up to watch.”

Talking about the history of the event, Bird was happy to talk more about the origins:

“Scarlet’s Showcase is very special. Jenny Tyrrell was the Cardinal Dance president that founded Scarlet’s Showcase three years ago,” she said. “She had the idea and vision to unite all the performing arts RSOs together on one stage. Performing arts RSOs often do not get the time or space to share their talents at SVSU and the showcase gives them their time to shine.”

The event is fairly new, as 2023 is only the third Scarlet’s Showcase.

“[Students] can look forward to watching dancing, singing and other art forms. The students in the show are the ones that used their creativity and hard work to create routines that may evoke emotions and often tell a story,” Bird said.

The event itself includes not only several routines from Cardinal Rhythm and Grace, but also performances from other performance RSOs like Hip-Hop Crew, Encore, and Red Royalty, along with individual performers, which is a new addition to the event.

“We’re excited to share [our performances], as we have new members that have not gotten to perform yet along with new choreographers for some of the routines. Cardinal Grace will also be performing its very first jazz dance at the showcase,” Bird said. “Overall, we’re excited to get to perform on stage and watch all the other performers get to shine and do their thing. We most definitely will be performing more next semester so keep a look out on Instagram and other places for posts about it.”
