With Spotify wrapped having just come out I think now is a good time to explain why I won’t be sharing mine for the world to see.
For starters, my music taste is a bit embarrassing. My Spotify wrapped was filled with bad pop music that can often be found as trending songs on Tik Tok, with the occasional Noah Kahn.
My wrapped also had an embarrassing amount of Taylor Swift in it. Like all of my top songs were Taylor Swift.
Which in itself doesn’t’ embarrass me, I love Taylor Swift. But what I don’t want people to see is what songs I obsessively streamed over the year. Just to give you an idea, it isn’t her happy songs.
Not to mention the songs from middle school that have followed me over the years. They’ve been broken up for close to ten years now but One Direction has still somehow managed to end up on my wrapped.
No one needs to see the sad or old music I listen to all year round.
No one is interested in seeing that Taylor Swift was my top artist for what feels like the tenth year in a row.
The music I listen to also says a lot about me as a person. Some songs have deeper meanings and emotions tied to them. I don’t need strangers or people I barely know looking at my wrapped and trying to analyze me based off of it.
People can make a lot of judgments about a person based on what they listen to.
I also have no interest in seeing everyone else’s Spotify Wrapped. My whole page on Instagram and Snapchat was wrapped posts.
I don’t want to know that your top artist was Morgan Wallen, who is racist by the way, or how many hours of the year you streamed him. If you want to listen to music from someone who was caught saying slurs, keep it to yourself and don’t broadcast it everywhere.
All in all, I won’t be sharing my Spotify Wrapped and I don’t want to keep seeing everyone else’s.
