SVSU track and field finished well at the two-day GVSU Big Meet Tournament, with a new record being set for the women’s 200-meter dash by senior Alona Olshevska.
The women had many highlights throughout both days.
Olshevska placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.41 seconds.
Olshevska also ran a 7.56 second race in the 60-meter dash.
For the 60-meter hurdles, junior Cheyenne Williamson finished in third place with a time of 8.70 seconds and also placed third in the long jump.
Senior Ciera Weber took ninth in the pole vault, marking 3.66 meters.
Senior Arianna Wegienka ran a 17:25.77 in the 5000-meter run.
Olshevska, sophomore Jenna Picard, sophomore Alexa Keiser and senior Lauren Buckner placed third in the distance relay with a time of 11:42.81.
Senior Ali Aldirch won the weight throwing event on Saturday, tossing 17.73 meters.
Also on Saturday, junior Mackenzie Ramey took third in shot put with 13.36 meters.
Additionally on Saturday, junior Taylor Lucas placed seventh in the long jump with 5.52 meters and eighth in the triple jump with 10.54 meters.
The meet also brought many successes for the men.
On Saturday, freshman Ben Arens placed first in the high jump event, leading 1.91 meters.
For the mile run, junior Eric Niestroy finished with 4:26.06.
Senior Dayton Brown paced eight in the 3000-meter run with 8:14.96.
The distance relay team of senior Brendan Nesbitt, freshman Corey Bowers, freshman Dominic Suliman and sophomore Ryan Mixon finished with 9:54.82.
Junior Cavan Wilcox finished third in the pole vault on Saturday marking 4.60 meters.
In the 60-meter dash junior Quin Broussard ran 7.06 seconds.
On Saturday, junior Nathan Furst finished in fifth place for the 60-meter hurdles with 8.49 seconds.
Additionally on Saturday, Clarence Corbett placed first in the weight throw with 18.16 meters.
Corbett also took second in shot put, tossing 16.72 meters.
Nesbitt and senior Austin Rippee both competed in the 800-meter run.
Nesbitt finished with 1:52.91 and Rippee finished with 1:56.60.
This week the team looks to the SVSU Tune-Up Meet on Friday at home.
Next the Cardinals head to the GLIAC Indoor Championships next week.
