‘I Heart SV’ week preview

Forever Red is set to host its annual ‘I Heart SV’ week Feb. 14 – 18 with a mix of in person and virtual events.

Macy Docken, a health science junior and the vice president of Enhance in Forever Red, has spent her time planning the week’s events with a committee.

The committee and Docken put together a mixture of events for the week, ranging from a talent show, scavenger hunt and bingo.

The week will kick off tonight with Bingo night at 7 p.m. in seminar D, E and F. The first bingo board will be free, and each additional board costs a dollar.

Docken said the Bingo event is what she is most excited for out of the all the events for the week.

All the money raised throughout the week, like the dollars spent for bingo boards, will go towards student scholarships.

“Our goal throughout the week [is] to enhance the SVSU experience by allowing students to participate in fun events meanwhile, fundraising for student scholarships,” she said.

Tuesday’s event is called “5 under 5”, where students can come hear alumni speak at a panel discussion. All these alums are from SVSU’s five different colleges and graduated five years ago.

Wednesday’s event features a student talent show at 8 p.m. Students can sign up for the talent show which will take place in the Rotunda. The winners will receive prizes.

On Wednesday there will also be a Buffalo Wild Wings fundraiser. All students received any email with coupons to take to the Buffalo Wild Wings on Tittabawassee road.

For each ticket, Buffalo Wild Wings will donate 20 percent of the profits to the fundraising for student scholarships.

Thursday’s event is Coop’s birthday. The event celebrates SVSU’s mascot at 8 p.m. in the TSAR. There will be all kinds of events from RSO performances, games, and contests for students to compete in and win.

Forever Red also will be selling limited addition T-shirts at Coop’s birthday party.

Friday will wrap up with a virtual scavenger Hunt at 6p.m. Students can check their email for a link to the event.

Throughout the entire week there will be an Instagram competition, apparel sales and an online scholarship donation link.

“We will be selling white bucket hats with a red heart and font that says, ‘I Heart SV,’” Docken said. “My favorite part about the design is [how] simple but cute it is. It is very [a] universal hat that anyone can wear to show their red pride.”

The apparel sales will take place outside the library and marketplace from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For many students on campus this will be their first ‘I Heart SV’ event.

“We did have a committee, that was filled with about 15-20 other students,” Docken said. “Most of the students on the committee have not experienced an I Heart SV week due to COVID so this will be their first one.”
