SVSU Athletics is set to host its 11th annual Breast Cancer Survivor reception and recognition event on Saturday, Feb. 16.
The event will take place at a home basketball doubleheader against Davenport. The event is a part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Pink Wave week.
The event highlights and praises the survivors for their testaments of perseverance, hope and bravery.
The reception will take place prior to the women’s contest at 1 p.m. A ceremony will occur during halftime of this game to recognize the 50 local cancer survivors attending the event.
The event has raised over $32,000 over the years that it has been operational. All of the money that has been raised also goes to local members of the community that are in need of Breast Cancer treatment.
Promotional items will be sold at the event, including t-shirts and commemorative gifts.
The promotional items sold at the event will all go to Covenant’s Breast Health CARE Fund. The CARE fund allows people who are uninsured or underinsured and who have met fund criteria to receive additional mammograms and other forms of testing.
The reception and entrance into the game are complimentary for the survivors of breast cancer. Guests have a fee of $15 each, and kids under the age of five are admitted free.
For information or to RSVP to the reception, contact the SVSU Athletics Community Engagement office at gocards@ svsu.edu or visit the SVSU Athletics web page.
